Geneva Rust-Orta just turned 21, just finished university, and just got over an eating disorder.
She has no idea what to do now. Therefore, she has decided to take some time out of growing up to write and perform an hour-long comedy show.
This show, ‘Messed Up’, seeks to heal Geneva’s inner child through the restorative properties of Gallows Humour.
Geneva is a Jewish-American 21-year-old woman living in the UK. Her comic style has no particular aesthetic. It features and combines elements of classic stand-up, comedy poetry, comedy songs, and storytelling. Her show has been compared to watching a prolific but frenzied comedy writer breakdown on stage…on speed. But in a good way.
Geneva’s humour seeks to blur the line between laughing and cringing, cheering and crying. Between weightier jokes titled ‘Haha Holocaust’ and ‘LOL Bulimia’ her show features humour based on nothing much at all. Including an ‘angry poem’ about how angry she is:
I can’t stand sitting down!
Screw light bulbs!
I am so over the Southern Hemisphere.
Geneva was named ‘Second-Funniest Jew’ at the JW3 Jewish Comedy Competition in December 2015.
