ďGutsĒ is the angry new comedy show from angry young comedy-man Nev ("ever versatile- The Skinny)

When you start in stand up itís often said that youíve taught the comedy bug, but after 5 years Nev has discovered itís more of a comedy tapeworm; a parasite that survives on a diet of pissy bear, rancid kebab meat and unhappiness. So letís turn some misery in comedyÖlol.

During last yearís fringe Nev got locked inside a shit-filled toilet stinking toilet. It allowed him to meditate on his time in comedy and would serve as a handy metaphor which he could exploit for a future show. This is that show.

Being angry is incredibly exhausting. And Nev has a lot to be angry about. Heís poor, unemployed, his life is controlled by the ineffective Greek gods and he has a bigoted talking parasite living in his colon. Heís miffed.

Nevís psychiatrist has told him to envision a happy place when things get to much for him. Nevís happy place is Switzerland, the country that regularly tops the UNís World Happiness Index. But how can Nev relax when all he experiences in his own country is a political system which is draining his vital bodily fluids dryÖ and he doesnít have any money for booze!

Strong stomachs are required for this tapeworm's fever dream on the politics of bleeding, vomiting, pissing and shitting. Come along and watch a man literally talk out his arse.

Powered by voodoo black magic juju, Nev's humour is surreal,
angry, dark, sharp, hypnotic, heart-broken and other good words.

Review for Nev: Guts
On stage Nev seems to be a one-man deadpan satire on the conventions of the typical misanthropic Scottish comedian. Normally the charismatic frontman of Scotlandís exceptional alternative comedy night Chunks, Nev is displaying with Guts a different side to his talents.

Itís painfully low-energy and at points quite grim, but always with an undercurrent of self-aware complexity. Itís safe to say that not every part of the act hits; lots of the politics can be played too straight, without enough nuance and invention. In fact, the more extreme or tough the show, and its subject matter becomes, the stronger it is for it.

There is more than enough substance to make the show one to watch. Ultimately, it isnít perfect and the crowd isnít huge, but it is inventive and unique Ė exactly the sort of comic the Fringe needs.
