What happens when you place an Indian-American from Los Angeles and a Kenyan Kenyan from Kenya in Tokyo? “Black and Tan in Japan” is the show where two of the brightest stars of the Tokyo stand-up comedy scene entertain you with their hilarious and wry observations gleaned from their unique cultural perspective. Evans Musoka and Vinay Murthy have been delighting audiences in Japan and beyond with their energetic comedy. At times smart, at times silly, at times thought-provoking, at times ridiculous, these two will have you laughing as they invite you to see things from their idiosyncratic point-of-view.

Evans Musoka is a Kenyan born and raised comedian currently residing in Japan. He started his career a little over five years ago in Kenya before moving to Japan. As one of the more cutting-edge, young stand-ups, promoters have booked him as the opening act for major touring acts, including Gina Yashere, Phil Nichol, Yuriko Kotani, Tom Rhodes, and Dana Alexander, just to mention a few. Evans Musoka is heating up the international comedy scene through his candid comedic performances. Known for his witty, vivid delivery and his diverse style, Evans allows his audience to feel as though they're on an adventure. He has performed at all major comedy clubs in Japan and many beyond. He has headlined the most popular comedy club in Japan, Good Heavens Comedy Club. In addition, he has performed at Crackhouse Comedy Club in Malaysia, Comedy Masala in Singapore, Takeout Comedy in Hong Kong, Comedy Manila in the Philippines, as well as at the largest comedy extravaganza called “SEKA live” in Rwanda, where he performed in front of an audience of 1,000 people! He is also the co-host of a comedy podcast, “Black on Black.”

Vinay Murthy is a veteran of the English comedy scene in Tokyo. Having started out there about 12 years ago and quickly risen the ranks to be one of the most consistently engaging and crowd-pleasing acts for both the Tokyo Comedy Store and Stand-Up Tokyo, Vinay is one of the most popular and respected comics on the scene. He regularly headlines shows all around Japan, including at Good Heavens Comedy Club, Tokyo’s number one comedy showcase. Having developed a reputation as a dependable opening act for international headliners, Vinay has had the opportunity to open for many stalwarts of comedy, including Phil Nichol, Yuriko Kotani, Tom Rhodes, Stuart Goldsmith, Hannibal Buress, and Jim Gaffigan, and he supported UK favorite Phil Wang on his two Japan tours. He’s also performed to big audiences outside of Japan, in cities including Taipei, Hong Kong (Takeout Comedy), Singapore (Comedy Masala), Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. Having grown up as the son of first generation Indian immigrants in America and having lived in Japan for the past 16 years, Vinay brings his particular perspective to topics as varied as race, politics, gender issues, movies and pop culture, life in Japan, and craft beer snobbery. A gifted mimic, his various spot on accents and impressions keep audiences amazed and amused.

This Indian-American and Kenyan are thrilled to be bringing their unique comedic vision to the UK. So, come watch as we bring “Black and Tan in Japan” to Edinburgh!
