48 Below is located underneath the
Phoenix Pub - it used to be the function room of the Phoenix. It
is now a wine bar and performance space used through year for
comedy and cabaret shows, with
it's own separate entrance from Broughton Street.
The venue has had a complete refurb
in the last two years, and is located in the heart of the area
of Edinburgh know for LGBT venues, and as such a great venue for
that audience. It is a venue that welcomes all types and genres
The Performance space is a dark
and cosy basemen room, with a small stage area and benefits from
shows also being able to advertise upstairs in the Phoenix.
There is amble backstage area, and full dressing room with
mirrors for performers.
Space: The Basement Bar
Stage - Roughly 2m Wide & 2 m deep (corner stage) raised to 6cm. Backstage
through door to stage right into dressing room area. Flat floor
cab be used around raised stage area,
Seating - Capacity 40
seated, with room for 20 people standing.
1xPar Can to flood light the stage.
Sound - 4 Channel Mixer,
Cables for MP3 Player, 2 Mics, Cables and Mic
stands. Performers own sound equipment can be added easily.
Audio Visual - There is no AV
in the room. Projectors can also be used easily if brought by
performers, and placed on the end of the bar during performance.
There is a very small area for equipment in the venues
Bar - There is a bar in the room
that can be opened or closed during performances.
